Meet Accomplished CEOs, Lisa and Paula

When we first met each other as two top female executives competing for the same multi-million dollar contract, we viewed each other as fierce competitors. Years later, we realized we had more in common than we first thought. Over the years, we learned the value of complementing instead of competing. In the process, both of us recognized how embracing the success of others can in fact, propel our own career.

Committed to driving growth and innovation, Lisa T. Grimes leverages her entrepreneurial mindset and skills to increase revenue, fuel expansion and achieve successful outcomes. She is known for establishing healthy corporate cultures where people thrive, having had key team members move with her to multiple companies. As an early executive of PPD (now Thermo Fisher Scientific) Lisa led global marketing and business development where she and her team consistently grew revenue by triple digits paving the way for an IPO.

Lisa was recruited as President & CEO of InSite Clinical Trials where she and her team led a successful turnaround, ultimately selling InSite to United Healthcare (delivering a substantial shareholder return); she then served as President of its clinical development division. Lisa also served as President of AcSentient where she raised capital and secured worldwide licensing rights for three ophthalmology products, ultimately negotiating a sale to ISTA. She served as an advisor to Campbell Alliance (now Syneos) where she helped establish the clinical consulting division and later the Pharmaceutical Institute.

Lisa provides executive leadership coaching and consulting services through Habergeon LLC and is a frequent presenter and keynote speaker. Lisa enjoys giving back, serving on various local, national and international boards. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from UNC-Chapel Hill, where she’s also served as an adjunct faculty member.

Along with Paula Brown Stafford, Lisa co-authored Remember Who You Are, a best-selling book published in 2018 on success, balance, and fulfillment.

With more than 35 years of experience in biopharmaceutical services, Paula Brown Stafford helped build the CRO industry and the preeminent CRO in the industry, Quintiles (now IQVIA). Her three-decade career at Quintiles culminated in serving for five years as President of Clinical Development. She most recently served as Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Novan, Inc. (Nasdaq: NOVN).

Paula is a Board member of Alliance Multi-Specialty Research and co-founder of Habergeon LLC.  Paula is also an Adjunct Professor in the Public Health Leadership Program at the University of North Carolina (UNC) Chapel Hill Gillings School of Global Public Health.

For her outstanding contributions to healthcare and pharmaceutical development, Paula was honored with a Distinguished Alumna Award from UNC Chapel Hill. Paula provided expert testimony in the U.S. Congressional hearing on the topic of modernizing clinical trials: “21st Century Cures”, a bill later approved by the House of Representatives in 2015.

Paula holds a bachelor of science and a master’s in Public Health, both from UNC Chapel Hill, with a specialization in Biostatistics. In 2018, she co-authored the best-selling book, Remember Who YOU Are, with Lisa T. Grimes.
